I believe you have done some search in Google. Be it for research, solutions, or analyzing your competition. However, did you notice that you have been redirect to another search engine of Google? Recently, I found out that there is some difference.
Is there redirection???
When we key in “www.google.com” into our URL bar, Google will get your IP and redirect you to the appropriate local search engine. Let’s say if you are from Malaysia, your search engine will end up to be “www.google.com.my“. In this way, Google not only earn loyalty from the users by localizing the webpage, it also helps lighten the load of the main engine that is in US. However, that is not good for some SEO-ers out there who wants to make money online.
How does it affect Search Engine Optimization?
Recently, I have opted in to one of my competitors’ list. And I have been reading his blog. His PR has drop from a good 4 to the worst 0. However, he didn’t panic as he said his website is still in the top 10 of SERP of his keywords. Feeling fishy, I have did some research on his website. Indeed, his website is still at top 10, but only at local search engine! I did a farther research and found out that the keyword has higher demand on other countries.
How to prevent it?
First of all, when you are doing your niche researching, I am sure that you use the Google Trends tool. It will break down the different countries searches for you. With that, you can know what country will have the highest demand on your keyword. Let’s take for example. “Make Money Online” keyword.
